There are icons for you!

Warning, though: fans of Lois, Clois and Chimmy may be offended. I don't have that many of those on my list, but I thought I'd warn anyway.

Bedding?

  • Nov. 18th, 2008 at 9:22 PM
Currently Tobi gets Aspen bedding. I put the shavings in the freezer for a week to kill anything on it since my mother, who has rats, has gotten some Aspen and other wood shaving with mites in them... I would really like to get something more... I prefer getting things in bulk because I don't get to go shopping very often, and so its easier to get more than a small thing of Aspen each and every time... I haven't found it in larger amounts.

I am curious as to what you, my other chin fans, use for bedding. I debate going to fleece, but I do not know how it works... Do you clean them every day? or is it more like they are potty trained and have a corner thing of shavings where they go?

I would like to hear what you use and how it works for you :) Thanks in advance!

Dude, Sheriff Valenti is on Fringe!

There really should be a Fringe/Roswell crossover, you know.
EDIT@6:54PM PST

We just implemented a temporary fix for our internal network and it *looks* promising. We'll let it bake in overnight and see how well it performs tonight and tomorrow.

------

Hi hi!

We've completed the majority of the move and had the site back up by 20:00 UTC (hey, look, I can post! You can read! Yay!) , but there's still some lingering issues that we need to clean up and are aware of so please be a little more patient while we wrap up the odds and ends.

I want to echo the lj_releases post where we thank [info]burr86 and [info]dormando for their ceaseless efforts, skill and knowledge. The LJ Ops and Engineering teams have/are *still* working their butts off but without burr86 and dormando's expertise, we could not have pulled this off.

For you techies, the slowness on our website is known, and the issue is currently isolated to oversubscribed ports on our core switches. That's direct from our vendor. Yeah, I know... Anyways, we're trying to implement a temporary workaround and we'll be looking to upgrade our hardware as a permanent solution. Please, hang in there a little longer!

So . . .

  • Nov. 18th, 2008 at 6:23 PM
My Boss's wife wants me to participate in a book sharing chain  thing.  I'm supposed to send a letter to six people with my address, and then they send a book back to her and pass their address along with mine to six others. At best, I get a lot of new books.  At worst, nothing happens.

The thing is that I don't want to send it on to someone who dosen't want to participate.

So I'm opening this up to you all.  Who wants to try this?

My walk home from work tonight.

  • Nov. 18th, 2008 at 6:51 PM

I was walking home tonight in the bitter, bitter cold, wishing I had worn a hat, when I passed a construction site.  That's not unusual.  Everyone's building condos in Philadelphia.  I only hope that the economy crashes more so I can pick one up for a nickle.

Anyway, there was a big cement mixer truck at the site and as I was nearing it, it started to hiss.

'Hmmm,' thought I, 'I didn't know cement mixers did that.'

Then the hissing got louder and louder, so loud it hurt my ears.

Then, just as I was right across the street from the cement mixer, its top exploded with a loud boom and we were all enveloped in a cloud of dust and small chunks of cement rained down on our heads.

And I wished again that I had worn a hat.

A Year Without You [G] for the community

  • Nov. 18th, 2008 at 6:19 PM
Title: A Year Without You
Author/Artist:
Rating: G
Disclaimer: I don't own any part of Harry Potter, or Draco, or Hermione, but if I did, D/Hr would rule forever. The song requested was The City Lights by Umbrella. I don't own that either, but it's a great song.
Summary: I asked her to give me a year to sort things out. She didn't know that I was asking for a year to forget her. Or maybe she did.
Notes: Big big thanks to my sisters and friends who helped me through this. Also, a huge thanks to my wonderful beta, [info]lucillajoanna who really helped me turn this fic around, and was there through the brainstorming for the title and summary. :D And I have to credit [info]drcjsnider who kind of inadvertently gave me the idea for this fic- through a drabble called Haven't Gotten Over You Yet. That title sort of helped me come up with the basic plot, and the song where it's from helped me come up with the title of this fic. Last but not least, I hope you enjoy this.

From my publisher - Christmas sale

  • Nov. 18th, 2008 at 8:14 AM

Passing this on from Yard Dog Press.  They're the ones who published my novella Tranquility:

From now till January 15th (so you can use any holiday money you get to buy the books at these prices) we will be holding our first ever GIANT MEGA CASH FLOW SALE!!!

What's on sale? All perfect-bound books for the time period mentioned above will be $2.00 off the already unbelievably low YDP price. My Meisha Merlin Titles—Strange Robby, Recycled, Chains of Freedom and Chains of Destruction—will be on sale for $10.00. How's this for a deal—if you buy all three Chains books you can get the brand new Chains of Redemption for the same $10.00 price tag. In other words you can get all three Chains books for $2.00 less than you'd normally pay for two of the books. Such a deal!
Also on sale for the same $10.00 price tag, Best of the Bubbas of the Apocalypse. That's right. This book has all the best stuff from the other four BOTA books. What a great gift for that friend or family member you want to introduce to the BOTA universe.
Chap books, murder games, and the card games aren't on sale, but would make great holiday gifts and are already priced to move.
            Here's the big deal…

…buy more than $50.00 of any merchandise and we'll throw in free shipping!

That's right buy sales items, buy things that aren't on sale; it doesn't matter because the minute your ticket goes over just $50.00 you get free shipping and handling.
And how's this for a deal? You have a friend or family member you want to send a gift to but you don't want to deal with it?

Then for an extra $6.00 we will wrap your book and ship it to that person on your gift list by priority mail.

You just go to www.yarddogpress.com, go through the catalogue, make your selections, and then either e-mail Lynn (lynnstran@cox.net) or me (selinarosen@cox.net) and we'll get your order rolling. You may pay via PayPal after contacting us, or you can give us your credit card info. If you prefer, you can just send us your order and a check made out to YARD DOG PRESS. Mail it to 710 West Redbud, Alma, AR, 72921-7247.
Either way, we’d be as happy as elves if you’ll let us fill your order.

Have a happy holiday!
Selina

I've had my chinchilla for 5 years now and I honestly just don't feel like I'm giving him the best life that he deserves. I'm a full time college student (21 credit hours!) and I work. He never really gets to come out and play anymore. I just don't have the time. I would like to find him another home but I'm so worried that he won't be taken care of. I'm not going to just give him away unless I know that he's going to be cared for and loved.

Does anyone have any tips for finding a great home for him? I live in the Asheville area if anyone is interested in taking my baby. I'd be willing to drive to you if you live in the general NC vicinity.

List, Recipe and Icons...

  • Nov. 17th, 2008 at 9:11 PM
Okay, so I'm breathing a little easier. I posted my Lumione (ACK!) PWP here on LJ and at FF.net and, so far, have received rave reviews. It makes me feel a little better. Now, if I can get it beta'd ([info]wildflower4evr??), I'll get it posted on GE. That is something I'm truly nervous about. I don't even know why, but I totally am.

Anyway, here's my list.

1. Nominations started today for [info]dramione_awards. Yeah, they totally did. Get your oneshot and fan art Dramione nominees in! WEE! (Thanks to [info]floorcoaster for the reminder!)

2. [info]dyno_drabbles is going to get started the first of the year. Ever wanted to try out drabbling? Maybe try a new pairing? Yeah, well, check it out and make all your dreams come true. Errr, yeah. :)

3. Do you make icons? Have you ever wanted to try to make icons? Yeah? Awesome! Go join [info]alluring_stills. We're going to have our first competition as soon as we have 10 non-moderator members! WEE! Go join!

4. Have you voted at [Bad username: smutastic_awards] yet? No? Bad, bad LJ-friend. Go, right now, and vote. I mean it. >:[

5. Crap, I am really not that mean. Sorry.

6. Because I have to end on an even number, I'm going to pimp myself again (yeah, not like pimp out myself! Sheesh, what is the matter with you people?! *snicker).
MY LUMIONE PWP!

Okay, here's my recipe for my b>WORLD FAMOUS BAKED POTATO SOUP!</b>

Right, okay, so it's not actually world famous and it's really not even baked potato soup, so yeah. I know it started that way, but I've made so many modifications that I can't even call it that anymore. Ah well, this is way better than baked potato soup. :)

Just so you know, this is for a double-batch, which is how I always make it. Honestly, it's a good soup to freeze and eat later, so it's best to make a double batch if you have the pot for it. :)

Ingredients
1 1/3 cups margarine
3/4 cup flour
2 pkgs turkey bacon (recommended Oscar Meyer brand)
2 bundles green onion (finely chopped)
1 bag redskin potatoes
14 cups skim milk
8 cups shredded cheddar cheese
12 oz fat-free sour cream
fresh ground pepper
salt

Process
1. Cut up raw turkey bacon width-ways with knife or kitchen shears into small strips. Fry cut-up bacon in a skillet. Set aside.
2. Clean and cut up entire bag of redskin potatoes into chunks. Do not remove skins. Put chunks into large pot of water and boil for 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
3. While potatoes are cooking, melt butter in large stock pot on med-high. When butter is melted, add flour and stir together.
4. Once mixed, turn heat down to medium and begin adding milk in 2 cup incriments. Continue to stir so milk doesn't burn to the bottom of pot.
5. When milk begins to thicken, add onions to the pot.
6. Stir for another 5 minutes and then add potatoes and sour cream. Stir until sour cream is melted.
7. Begin adding cheese, stiring into the mixture 2 cups at a time. When finished, add salt and pepper (to taste).

And there you have it. :) Honestly, it's tasty. I promise. Hehe.

Okay, one last thing. I was messing around with my PSP tonight and made a couple of text/emotion icons.

Yumtastic )

Alright, I'm really done now. Bye y'all.

LJ Down? Then Two of Us!!!

  • Nov. 17th, 2008 at 8:46 PM
Two of Us Chlark Forum

LJ’s will be down tomorrow for what sounds like a good portion of the day for maintenance. Don’t go through Chlark withdrawal on your own. Come join us at the Two of Us Chlark Forum and discuss the best relationship on Smallville with people who appreciate it as much as you do.

You can post your art and vids, discuss spoilers and/or talk about Chlois in a non-combative environment. Over the past few days I’ve seen several positive journal entries on Abyss. They’ve helped buck up my spirits and they’d go perfectly in our Chlark Hope thread.

So, while LJ is down come explore ToU and don’t go without your Chlark fix.

Okay, so my muse hasn't exactly been agreeing with me lately. She doesn't want to write anything that has to do with the last chapter of Revenge. Actually, up until last night, she didn't want to write much of anything. But, last night, while writing an email to [info]dynonugget, I had a breakthrough...

In the form of some serious (serious meaning 10 pages and 4,500 words) Lumione smut.

Yeah, I said it: Lumione. I have never, ever, ever written anything quite like this and then to bring in Lucius Malfoy...yeah, it was a weird night. I don't think I've even done more than mention Lucius in passing in any of my stories. But, this was fun. LOL.

So with that all said, here it is, my gift to Dyno: Property of Lucius Malfoy
